KZNSA Members' Art Exhibition - Grass Roots

The theme for the 2014 KZNSA Members' Art Exhibition has been announced. Grass Roots! So excited about it and to get started on my painting. I have a visual, can see it, believe it and now must do it!

Dream - See - Believe - Do!

Medium: Acrylic and glass

I love the pose of this lady, so pensive and calm.

I believe you need to have a dream and visualise it (see), believe in it and then be brave and confident enough to do it!

SOLD at the KZNSA Annual Art Exhibition, in 2011.

Power To You

Medium: Digital art using Fireworks.

This was my first attempt at digital/graphic art.

I entered a Vodacom “Power To You” T-Shirt design competition, by Springleap in 2011 . Unfortunately mine did not get enough votes to win but I had fun designing this, and it opened me up to a different art medium.

Bird & Cloud

Medium: Acrylic

Having fun with pop art style .

White Freesia’s on Pink

 Medium: Acrylic

I love the clear detail in flowers and painting them is so satisfying.

I had fun with this painting, preparing the bright pink background to be the backdrop to the simple and pure Freesia's.

Roses in Field

Medium: Acrylic and sea sand

I had fun playing with a more abstract style, as I am usually drawn to creating realistic, detailed life-like art.

I think commissions are in a way my "school of art", encouraging me to stretch my artistic skills beyond what I am comfortable with. I also do believe that you need to hone in on your own style, which commissions can distract you from.

Rimmel Make-Up

Medium: Acrylic & glitter

This was my first painting using acrylic as the medium. I had previously painted using water colours (in High School), as it was much more affordable at the time.

I was inspired to paint this while I was recovering from a back injury in May 2004, shortly after I met my boyfriend "at the time", who is now my amazing husband :) I had kept a Rimmel make-up advert from a magazine for years, hoping to paint it one day. I was attracted to the boldness of the bright yellow eye shadow and the top hat. I added pretty glitter to the eye shadow for extra sparkle & sheen.

Sold, in 2013. I was reluctant to sell it at first but a good friend had been wanting it for ages, she loves it so much! I know she will take care of it and I can always visit.
